Library Love

This family loves the Library!  Me and the kids find activities to attend at one of the Gwinnett County Libraries at least once a week.  They have a really fun Music & Movement class once a month, traditional Story Time once a week, and Events throughout the month.  On February 13th, they had a Valentine's Dance Party.  The kids were all dressed up and it was just an hour of dancing around and enjoying ourselves.  Matthew hated the dancing and just wanted me to hold him the whole time, but both Emily and Rosie really got into it.  Of course, I didn't get any pictures or videos, but here's a pic of the outfits they wore.

A really fun Event we got to attend was this past Friday - the Pete the Cat event.  For those who have never heard of Pete the Cat, he's a cute book character that has two really cute books that each come with a song.  I thought it was just going to be story time, but it also included a scavenger hunt for Pete's groovy buttons and a station to make a Pete hat/crown, as well as a large Pete to take pictures with.  For the scavenger hunt, the kids had to color the buttons on their page with crayons that were around the library with that color button.  Even Matthew participated, and he did a really good job. At each station, Emily got his crayon out for him, he'd color his button (actually scribbled somewhere on the page) and then he'd put it back himself.  The hat making was a little crazy, with Em and Rosie wanting to glue and cut all their own pieces, in addition to me having to make Matthew's hat, and keep him in one spot the whole time.  This included him standing on the bench, falling on the hard floor and hitting his head, and 3 librarians checking on him.  They gave me some weird looks since I blew it off so easily, being that it's a daily occurrence that he hits his head somewhere, cries for a bit and then is off to the next thing.  Of course he wouldn't even wear his hat and it got ruined as soon as we got in the car anyway.

Yes, the girls had to wear their Spider Girl and Hello Kitty costumes.  This is a regular occurrence when we go anywhere in public!

This little dance party is a perfect example of one of the reasons I tell people how much I love having kids this age.  They really make you stop and enjoy the fun little things in life that you forgot about years ago.  They really bring out the kid in you and make you realize how much more important these things in life are, rather than so many other things our society (including me and Scott unfortunately) places importance on.  Wearing their costumes out is another one.  At one point when they started this, I wasn't going to let Rosie wear her Princess Belle dress to the grocery store, but then I thought "You know what?  Someday (sooner than I hope), she'll realize the "acceptable ways in social settings" and will be too embarrassed to do it.  Let them do these things now because it's cute, it allows them to show their personality, and it's fun!  They'll grow up to be adults too soon anyway and won't have as much fun anymore :(
